Ericsson to show off Music Connect at African music festival

Back when we were growing up starting a band meant you had to find like minded musicians in your vicinity. Ericsson wants to shake that logic up a bit with a new service.

That service is called Music Connect and according to Ericsson it will allow musicians to collaborate with each other online, in real-time, even if there is an oceans between them.

Ericsson made mention of a similar solution back in March (though it didn’t have a name back then) while showcasing the capabilities of a 5G network.

Like that solution, Music Connect allows for ultra low-latency, and high bandwidth throughput which in turn allowsa for musicians to work together in real time.

“Music Connect enables musicians in different locations playing together in real time with harmony. It will enable more people to enjoy immersive performances than ever before. The higher throughput connection and ultra-low latency enables musicians to practice and perform in real time and perfect synchronization, even when they are geographically apart. It will also allow musicians with disabilities to participate in musical events and receive or provide training without physically being present – transforming limitations into possibilities,” Ericsson said in a statement.

Ericsson will be showing off the solution in Rabat Morocco during the Mawazine Festival which takes place from 21st – 29th June.

During the show Ericsson will showcase Music Connect and give us a glimpse of what live music might look like one day.
