Raspberry Pi 4 waiting for ICASA approval before being sold in SA

Near the end of June the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B was unveiled with a very low $35 price point for the 1GB variant, but the question of when we’d get the board in the country had not been answered.

Unfortunately we still don’t have a solid date, but we do know more about the situation thanks to RS Components.

“South African fanatics will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on these revolutionary microcomputers,” a press release from the company reads. “RS Components South Africa assures users that once these latest offerings from the Raspberry Pi Foundation get Independent Communications Authority of South Africa’s (ICASA) stamp of approval, they will be available to order.”

The release goes on to state that stock is expected come September this year, but no prices (speculative or otherwise) have been provided at this time.

As a reminder the Raspberry Pi 4 has a lot of improvements compared to previous boards, with one of the big features many are excited about being video support of 4K at 60 Hz using a pair of micro HDMI ports. You can find the full specs in the release story on the product.

While you wait for the newest Pi to reach our shores, make sure you check out our Raspberry Pi archives to see what the maker community has done with past iterations over the years.
