Spotify Lite is just 10MB and available now

Now that Spotify has become available in more countries, the firm has rolled out a Lite version of its Android app.

Blessed with the name of Spotify Lite, the app clocks in at a tiny 9.8MB. The ordinary Spotify app is 28MB in size.

“Spotify Lite was built from the ground up based on user feedback from around the world, allowing millions more to enjoy the world’s best music experience — especially in areas with limited bandwidth and phone storage,” senior product manager at Spotify, Kalle Persson said in a blog post.

While a smaller footprint on our storage is welcome, Spotify Lite also includes a feature we really feel should be part of the Spotify app – data management.

Spotify Lite users can set a data limit and will receive a notification when that limit is reached so that you don’t need to fret about your data usage.

The firm also touts the ability to clear the Spotify cache with a single tap although this is a feature in the full Spotify app as well.

Spotify Lite looks identical to the full app with a few differences. For instance, you can now change the audio quality from a playlist.

Spotify Lite is now available in 36 countries including South Africa and we highly recommend switching over to the app if for nothing other than a few user interface tweaks.
