Takealot and Superbalist plan annual sale inspired by Amazon’s Prime Day

Local retailers Takealot and Superbalist, which form part of the Takealot Group, have announced that it will be hosting its own annual sale.

Unlike Black Friday or other big shopping days, Takealot is looking to make this its own special event and as such has christened it with the name The Ultimate Checkout.

Much like Prime Day, The Ultimate Checkout will stretch out across multiple days.

The first day of the event kicks off at 00:01 on 24th July and will run through until 26th July. Neither Takealot nor Superbalist has shared deals with us but has alluded to what you can expect to be on sale each day, in the most vague descriptions possible.

“The year on year growth of Black Friday is an excellent indication of the appetite for big shopping events in SA. Internationally, annual events such as Amazon’s Prime Day, Alibaba’s Singles Day and Flipkart’s Big Billion Days highlight the demand for tailored shopping experiences in addition to great deals. What makes The Ultimate Checkout different is that it is built on shopper behaviour and we are hoping to establish this as an annual event,” chief executive officer at Takealot Group, Kim Reid said in a media release.

The group has said that during the event shoppers who make purchases from both Takealot and Superbalist will stand a chance to win a R10 000 voucher from each of the sites (totalling R20 000).

And here we were thinking that we wouldn’t be spending money until Black Friday.

It’s also worth remembering that Takealot recently launched pick-up points around Johannesburg which might be worth using to avoid waiting on couriers to deliver your purchase.
