These are the Phase Four films and series Marvel has planned until 2021

Comic-Con 2019 just wrapped up this past weekend, and this year’s iteration of the annual event did not disappoint, especially for Marvel fans. Hall H in San Diego played host to a chock-a-block presentation from Marvel Studios and head Kevin Feige, with a number of projects that are planned for Phase Four of the of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In particular Feige and co. confirmed 10 projects in total, with five slated for theatrical release and the remainder heading to Disney+, and all of which happening between now and the end of 2021.

As such if you were hoping for a bit of break after Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios has no plans to take its foot off the gas.

So what is on the way?

Well, in chronological order, the first film on the cards is Black Widow in May 2020, with Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as the titular character and the film serving as a look into her life pre-Avengers.

Next is the first Disney+ project with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, with it slated to arrive in Fall (Stateside) 2020. It’s unclear how many episodes are planned or indeed multiple seasons are on the way, but Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie are on board.

Rounding off the films in 2020 is The Eternals in November, with this movie featuring a stellar cast including Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Hill, Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie, all of whom will essentially be playing gods within the MCU.

Now we head into a very busy 2021 with Wanda Vision – a new Scarlett Witch-led series for Disney+. Joining Elizabeth Olsen will be Paul Bettany as Vision, which means the fate of the character may not have ended with Endgame.

The next film should be of interest to Cumberbatch fans with Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness hitting cinemas in May. Hopefully this film will address some of the time travel issues that arose in Endgame, and ties up any loose ends for fans.

We then have three different Disney+ series on the way for 2021, with Loki and Tom Hiddleston arriving in the Spring, followed by an exploration of alternative realities within the MCU in What If…? come the summer. The next series is planned features Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in the fall, along with introducing a new character to the MCU in Kate Bishop.

The final 2021 film confirmed by Marvel Studios in Phase Four is Thor: Love and Thunder. We’ll of course have Chris Hemsworth returning, along with Natalie Portman as his love interest. What’s most intriguing here though, is that Portman will be wielding Mjölnir as female Thor, as happened in a recent run of the comic book.

If that schedule seems jam packed, there could be a lot more on the way, with Feige not even mentioning the plans for current properties like Spider-Man, Captain Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy. The Marvel Studios head also hinted at the Fantastic Four and the introduction of mutants.

One of the best moments, however, was the announcement of two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali taking on the role of Blade. Details are scarce as the moment, but we hope Marvel retains an R-rating for this one.
