It took Ninja five days to hit 1 million Mixer subscribers since leaving Twitch

Over the weekend Twitch lost its biggest streamer in the form of Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, as he announced his move to Microsoft’s gamer-focused streaming service – Mixer. The announcement came via a press conference-style video where Ninja touched on many of his motivations for the move.

Regardless of what your opinion is of his decision, the first few days have seemingly proved successful, at least when it comes to the number of subscribers he’s gotten. To that end Ninja took to his Twitter to confirm that his Mixer channel has surpassed the 1 million subscriber mark, having done so five days after making the aforementioned announcement.

While Ninja’s popularity is hard to deny, the number of subscribers he’s been able to get is relatively surprising, especially as Mixer is yet to be viewed in the same light as Twitch, which still remains the go-to platform for gaming live streamers.

Getting a creator like Ninja onboard makes a lot of sense for the up-and-coming platform, but we think it will need quite a few more big names to join in order to maintain the momentum that Ninja has started.

It’s also worth noting that a large contributor to the massive number of subscribers is the fact that Mixer has made the first two months free for new sign ups to Ninja’s channel. Once that two month period elapses though, the monthly subscription price rises to $5.99.

As such it should be interesting to see whether there is any significant change to subscriber numbers or behaviour in two month’s time (30th September). Also intriguing is whether Ninja can hit the heights he did during his stay on Twitch.

For now those the live streaming wars haven’t quite heated up, but if more big names jump the Twitch ship, it certainly could.
