Snap’s Spectacles 3 add second HD camera and cost $380

Whatever your opinion of sunglasses that feature some sort of wearable technology, it’s still a consumer tech segment that Snap Inc. is interested in. So much so that the firm has released its third iteration of its wearable sunglasses, unimaginatively named the Spectacles 3.

The tech-focused frames feature a new design akin to that of the Ray-Ban Clubmaster, along with a second HD camera designed to tackle the issue of depth perception when recording content.

As with previous versions of the Spectacles, this latest offering doesn’t come cheap, and is listed at $380 Stateside. That makes them twice as expensive as the previous generation, so we’re a little unsure if social media influencers will be keen on paying double for the new variant.

They’ll also be available in two colour options – Carbon and Mineral (pictured below).

As you can see above the Spectacles 3 will come with a case that doubles as a charger, with it taking 75 minutes to reach full charge. This yields an unknown amount of battery life though, so it’s unclear how many times you’ll need to charge the Spectacles 3 during the course of a day. That said Snap Inc. notes that wearers will be able to record up to 70 videos and more than 200 photos with them.

The Spectacles 3 also feature 4GB worth of storage, which Snap Inc. says can hold up to 100 videos and 1 200 photos. The former is record at 1216×1216 and the latter by 1642×1642.

The Spectacles 3 are currently up for pre-order in select countries, South Africa is not one of them, with the wearable expected to ship in November.

If ever there was a piece of social media overkill, this is it.
