Blizzard has decided to renerf Hearthstone cards it just buffed

Hearthstone’s Saviors of Uldum expansion is live and while there are a number of new cards to play around with, Blizzard has highlighted a few older cards that have become problematic.

As such, next week Blizzard will deliver update 15.0 to Hearthstone which will be accompanied by a number of cards changes.

“Now that Saviors of Uldum is live, new cards have been introduced and powerful decks have started to surface. To make for a better ladder experience for Hearthstone players in this new expansion, we’ve decided to make the following card adjustments in an update next week,” wrote the developer.

Mage cards are up first with Conjurer’s Calling and Luna’s Pocket Galaxy getting mana-cost increases.

“While Conjurer’s Calling is a powerful tool that’s found in a number of Mage decks, when used in decks focused around cards like Mountain Giant and Sea Giant, it was creating extremely powerful board states at a point in the game where opponents didn’t have effective answers,” said Blizzard. The card will now cost four mana, up from three.

As for Luna’s Pocket Galaxy, the card had previously been buffed by lowering the mana cost from seven to five. Now Blizzard has decided that the power swing provided by the card was too much and the original mana cost of seven has been restored.

Warriors are also getting a nerf especially those playing decks of the control archetype. Dr Boom Mad Genius currently costs seven mana but come update 15 that mana cost will increase to nine.

“We’d still like Dr. Boom, Mad Genius to be a great option for control Warrior decks looking to close out games, but right now the card gets played a bit too early. Increasing the mana cost to 9 should make it more difficult to find a good turn to play Dr. Boom, giving opponents time to make powerful plays as well,” explained the developer.

Priest’s running Extra Arms will also need to take note of the fact the card is getting a mana cost increase. Original released with a mana cost of three, it was buffed to only cost two mana as Priest was in a weak space competitively.

Now that Saviors of Uldum has been released the situation has changed and now Extra Arms is being nerfed back to its original mana cost of three.

Finally, Barnes, the annoying Legendary from One Night in Karazhan that summons a 1/1 copy of a minion in your deck is getting a nerf as well. The card will now cost five mana up from four.

“While we’re okay with Wild having a higher power level in general, Barnes stood out as too consistently powerful early in the game. Increasing his mana cost by 1 will let opponents have an easier time reacting, but still lets Barnes retain its identity as a way to summon specific minions early in the game,” explained Blizzard.

From what little we’ve played of Saviors of Uldum all of these changes seem fair with the exception of Dr Boom Mad Genius. While a nerf of that card has been lobbied about for some time now the community seems to believe that the resources the card provides are the real problem not the cost of the card.

The above card changes go live next week.
