Canon reveals new EOS 90D DSLR & EOS M6 Mark II mirrorless camera

If you’ve been eyeing up some new photography hardware, Canon has revealed a pair of cameras that may prove tempting for enthusiasts – the EOS 90D DSLR and EOS M6 Mark II mirrorless camera.

These two new models are being unveiled at the same time by the Japanese camera maker for a couple of reasons, many of which linked to the specifications that are shared between the two.

To that end both models are sporting Canon’s 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor, along with the company’s latest DIGIC 8 processor. As such, depending on which form factor you prefer, Canon now has two new additions in the EOS range with fairly similar specifications.

Looking a bit deeper, the larger 90D DSLR features 4K full-width video recording along with the increase in resolution from 2017’s 80D. It also touts 10fps bust shooting with autofocus, as well as an autofocus “joystick” and a maximum ISO of 25 600 for low light shooting. The body is relatively the same as its predecessor, with it tipping the scales at 701g sans lens, and featuring a 3″ LCD monitor on the rear with 100 percent coverage.

The EOS 90D is expected to land Stateside in mid-September for $1 199 for the body only. Locally no word just yet on pricing and availability, but we’re anticipating an announcement int he coming days.

Shifting to the EOS M6 Mark II, which has the same maximum ISO as its DSLR brethren and the ability to shoot 4K video at up to 120fps Full HD. Added to this is a 30fps RAW burst mode, and as you can tell from the header image above, a removable optional viewfinder is available. On the rear a 180-degree tilting 3″ screen is present along with 100 percent coverage. The big selling point for this mirrorless camera, as it is for the segment in general, is its size and weight, with the latter only being 408g for the body.

With an expected arrival in the United States in late-September, the EOS M6 Mark II has a recommended price tag of $849 for the body. We’re also awaiting confirmation from Canon South Africa on its latest price, availability, and what kinds of lens kit it will come with.
