New DJI Osmo Mobile 3 now available in SA starting at R1 895

A little over a month ago, DJI unveiled its latest smartphone gimbal – the Osmo Mobile 3, with the device scheduled for a local release in mid-September. Well it’s mid-September now and the latest offering has hit South African shores.

DJI held a local media briefing for the Osmo Mobile 3, detailing its price and availability, as well as the plans that the brand has in the works for the region. Providing the latter was regional manager for emerging markets, Raissa Mendes, who explained that DJI views South Africa as a key territory in the MEA (Middle East and Africa) market.

We’ll get to that shortly, but first the Osmo Mobile 3, which is being distributed locally by Core. As such you’ll be able to pick up the new gimbal from a number of local retailers, in two different options.

To that end the standard option will retail for a recommended R1 895, and includes the Mobile 3, wrist strap, storage pouch and ani-slip pads. There’s also a slightly more expensive combo pack going for R2 255 (RRP), adding a carrying case and more importantly a grip tripod which is an essential if you plan to do stationery time lapses or other still recordings.

Switching back to DJI’s local plans, Mendes notes that the firm wants to have more experiences available for local photography and videography enthusiasts with the new Osmo lineup.

She also hinted at looking into a dedicated retail space for Johannesburg, similar to the one in Cape Town. Lastly Mendes pointed to the local content creator scene, who she says is one of the best on the globe, with DJI aiming to engage more actively with local content creators.

We’ve also been given a Osmo Mobile 3 to review by DJI, so expect our full thoughts on the smartphone gimbal in the coming weeks.
