The Predator Triton 300 is Acer’s new lightweight gaming notebook

It’s hard to talk about entry-level when you’re dealing with gaming notebooks, which often command an expensive asking price, but this is what Acer has done by introducing the new Predator Triton 300 as its “entry-level” offering for its in-house gaming brand.

Like much of the hardware that the Taiwanese firm revealed in Berlin yesterday, local pricing and availability for the Triton 300 is yet to be disclosed, with more information expected to land in the coming month.

That said we do have an idea of the specifications and components that Acer will be making available in this new entry-level gaming notebook.

To that end you can get up to a 9th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, which is paired with an Nvidia GeForce GTX1650 graphics card. Added to this is 16GB of DDR4 RAM, with an option to double to 32GB, as well as space for up to two 1TB PCIe NVMe SSDs in RAID 0 or a 2 TB hard drive. There’s also Killer WiFi 6 functionality, not to mention the 15.6″ Full HD screen that delivers up to 144Hz refreshes rates.

Acer is also talking up the lightweight design of the Predator Triton 300, which comes in at 2.1kg. With many gaming notebooks often being hulking pieces of metal that are a pain to lug around, this device could prove far more portable depending on what the battery pack situation is like.

Another important consideration will be price. Despite featuring a solid array of specs and a lightweight design, if the price is not tempting enough, there will be little reason to opt for the entry-level Triton 300 when the more powerful Triton 500 is also in the mix.

For those details we’ll have to wait to see what Acer has in mind.
