A conversation with Catalyst Africa co-founder, Dale Imerman

The end of the year has pretty much arrived which means that conferences are winding down but there’s a rather interesting one taking place at the end of October in Cape Town.

Catalyst Africa 2019 is being billed as the convergence of mindset, creative thinking and technology. While that is a very attractive prospect we weren’t quite sure what that means.

To find out we sat down with Catalyst Africa co-founder Dale Imerman to find out what folks can expect from the conference set to take place between 30th and 31st October.

With so many conferences on the yearly calendar we were curious to find out what Catalyst Africa 2019 will bring to the table.

“The conferencing world is currently saturated with many incredible events that excite and inspire attendees about the future in a traditional format where people listen to speakers in a hall,” Imerman explains.

“Catalyst Africa believes there are enough futurist events and there is a need for nowists, imparting actionable knowledge that people can use in life and business today.”

Part of doing this involves tearing down the walls usually associated with conferences. What we mean by this is removing the separation that exists between C-suite executives and their employees.

This is evident in the array of speakers who will be present at Catalyst Africa 2019. The speakers include analysts, founders and even musicians.

“We believe innovation can come from anywhere – not one department or type of role in a business – The most unexpected discoveries happen when diverse topics and people come together to be inspired and equipped to action their ideas,” says Imerman.

And it’s not just things about bettering a business that folks stand to be exposed to.

“Catalyst Africa believes that South Africa has a massive opportunity to progress rapidly but this is only possible if people come together. To achieve this people require an understanding of concepts like empathy, meritocracy, collective power – all contributing to a growth mindset that leaves people with an appetite to advance themselves and work together for better results,” the co-founder explains to us.

With all of that having been said Catalyst Africa 2019 looks to be a rather interesting conference, and given that we attended our fair-share of conferences – some inspiring lethargy more than business acumen – that is definitely saying something.

For those hoping to attend an event such as this in Johannesburg sadly the event is set to remain in Cape Town for the time being.

“Catalyst Africa is invested in a long-term strategy to build an event that will not only expand in duration and footprint. Our intention is to remain in Cape Town and have the entire city leverage our platform to become the event,” says Imerman.

Catalyst Africa has received a number of requests to bring the conference to Johannesburg and Durban which it is considering but as it stands it appears as if Catalyst Africa is going to remain in Cape Town for the time being.

Tickets to the conference are still available via the Catalyst Africa 2019 website.
