Canon’s crowdfunded Ivy Rec camera available Stateside on 16th October

Earlier this year Canon’s American division decided to crowdfund a clippable outdoor camera in the form of the Ivy Rec via Indiegogo. It did not take long for the project to get funded, with it now sitting at five times the initial perk goal. Needless to say there has been plenty of interest in the device, and now it is making its way to market in the States, costing roughly $129.99.

If this is your first time encountering the Ivy Rec, think of it as an action camera, that’s just slightly less hardcore. It’s still got some solid features to give it the outdoor billing, being shock and waterproof, along with the aforementioned clip that makes it easy to attach to clothing or objects.

It’s likely not going to be your primary shooter, but definitely something you can add to your existing photography arsenal.

In terms of specifications a 13 megapixel 1/3″ CMOS sensor is present, with this option being a fixed-focal length. The square space between the camera housing and clip acts as a viewfinder, so users will frame up their shots with it, before choosing to snap pictures on-device or remotely, as well as record video.

Regarding the latter Canon says the Ivy Rec can muster up to 1080p visuals at 60fps, with each clip lasting as long as 10 minutes. There’s also Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity to help users pair up to their smartphone in order to operate the Ivy Rec or transfer images from the camera to the phone.

We’re unsure of the onboard storage capacity, but Canon has added a microSD slot to the Ivy Rec should you plan on capturing a lot of content. There’s also a 660mAh battery added to this mix, but battery life has not been mentioned.

Canon has also stayed mum on whether it plans to launch the Ivy Rec in regions outside of the US. We’ll likely have to see how well it sells in the coming months before Canon makes a call on that front.
