Get one free gig of data by downloading the new MTN app

If you’re struggling with data as we head into the end of the month MTN has offered one free gigabyte to those on its network who download the redesigned MTNApp.

The app, available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, has a bevy of features including account management and the ability to recharge. It will also allow users to track their data usage.

At this point you may be wondering if the free data is worth it as you will need to use some of your own (or WiFi, of course) to actually download the software. Thankfully both versions of the app was much, much smaller than the free data you get in return.

For Android users it’s 10MB, and those on Apple devices will need to download a bit more as that version is 30MB. Regardless of the version, that’s a really small app that won’t be hogging that much space on your phone.

There are two important caveats to remember with this promotion: the first is that the free gig is only valid for 24 hours. On top of this the offer will only be available until 30th January 2020, if you happen to be reading this story some time after publication.

Once you have your free data you may want to leave the app installed, as MTN has stated that it will unlock more features in the future. Aside from some nebulous “exclusive deals”, a press release sent to us states that the app will become zero rated in the future, which means that you will be able to use it without paying for data.
