Zombie game royalties Dying Light and Left 4 Dead 2 crossover

With Halloween less than a week away we’re seeing more special events across various pieces of media, with the original Dying Light getting yet another free update in the form of a Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) crossover.

The main focus of this event is making Dying Light look and play more like L4D2. To do this various gameplay tweaks have been added, such as a boost to the number of zombies to replicate the massive hordes from L4D2.

To counteract this and give you a better way to fight back, the Quartermaster NPC is handing out free guns like candy, and Safe Zones will have ammo to fill them.

Aside from the huge amount of customisable weapons in the game, three new ones have been added from L4D2. You’ll now be able to wield an electric guitar, gold club and frying pan (hopefully PUBG doesn’t sue).

This event has already started and will be active until 28th October at 19:00 CET (18:00 local time). We’re not sure why they chose to shut it down right before Halloween, but maybe Techland wants to actually go out trick-or-treating after spending this weekend fighting zombie.

If you’d prefer to not participate in the crossover and play the regular Zombieland, you can do so by disabling it in the game. In the options menu choose online, and then go to “Community Event Participation”.

The crossover also coincides with the 1.21 patch for the game which also squashes some small bugs and fixes a crashing issue in an areas of the Japanese version.

As a reminder Dying Light came out in January of 2015 and has been continually updated with free content and events like this ever since, despite the fact that it’s a co-op focused game with no live service guff. Aside from that it’s a fantastic game and we wholeheartedly recommend it. It’s on sale right now too, with varying degrees of discount on Steam, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
