High risk of loadshedding for later today – Eskom

Following a night of loadshedding, Eskom has warned South Africans that there is a high risk of loadshedding on Friday.

The utility said on Thursday that it had lost three generating units. As a result of this loss, Eskom had to draw on emergency reserves to meet demands. Late on Thursday however, Eskom had to implement Stage 2 loadshedding.

Following a meeting this morning Eskom has announced that the system remains vulnerable and the risk of loadshedding is high.

“While the system remains extremely constrained and vulnerable, the overnight loadshedding assisted with partial recovery of our emergency resources to enable us to get through the morning,” Eskom said in a power alert this morning.

“Our objective remains not to implement loadshedding during the day today, however given the unplanned breakdowns that are still above 10 500MW and the need to continue to replenish emergency reserves, the probability of loadshedding remains high for the latter part of the day but wil only be implemented if absolutely necessary,” the ultility added.

An update will be sent out later today but as a precaution we recommend checking your loadshedding schedules to insure you know if, or rather when, your lights will go out.
