Dubai police to use Tesla Cybertruck as patrol car next year

The Dubai Police have a history of using exotic vehicles as its patrol cars. In recent years the Lamborghini Aventador and Bugatti Veyron have been the car of choice, and now the latest option is the Tesla Cybertruck.

Yes the angular Blade Runner-inspired electric pickup truck that Elon Musk and co. revealed last week is going to be used by the Dubai Police. The organisation’s official Twitter page showcased the Cybertruck in profile and adorned with the Dubai Police livery.

The tweet, pasted below, also got a like from Musk himself, so it looks like the department will indeed be using Tesla’s latest vehicle as its patrol car of choice next year. If that date is indeed true, it would be a full year before the Cybertruck is slated for release in the States in 2021.

Speaking to Arabian News about the announcement, major general Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri says the new fleet of electric vehicles will be in charge of patrolling important tourist sites in the city, including the Burj Khalifa, La Mer, Jumeirah Beach Residence, and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard.

Precisely how many Cybertrucks have been ordered is unclear, as well as whether they will feature any unique elements to assist police in better doing their jobs.

As for whether any other police around the globe will be planning a similar fleet is unclear, but we’re expecting funding to be a bit of hurdle.
