New Half-Life isn’t 3, but VR game Alyx

Well, it’s been a good run everybody, but these are surely the end times. Valve has officially announced that there will be a new Half-Life game.

After weeks of rumours the publisher / Steam owner unveiled Half-Life: Alyx on Twitter.

“We’re excited to unveil Half-Life: Alyx, our flagship VR game, this Thursday at 10am Pacific Time. Can’t wait to share it with all of you!” The tweet reads.

Not to quote the meme but that’s it. That’s the tweet. Aside from those few words and the image you see in the header above, that’s all we have for now.

Everything else is even more rumours and speculation at this point, but the subtitles of the game is obviously related to Alyx Vance from Half-Life 2 and its subsequent episodes.

The leading theory right now is that this new game will be a prequel to Half-Life 2. Some are also speculating that the game will feature Headcrabs in some prominent role as they latch onto someone’s face like a set of VR goggles. We don’t think you’ll actually play as a Headcrab in this game, but who knows.

As this announcement was made on Twitter, that’s the best place to look out for more information come Thursday. We suggest following the official Valve account and turning on notifications for it.

Oh, and that account is a bit of news in itself, as it’s somewhat new. Some have said that this account is brand new and was made specifically for this announcement, but its profile age shows that it was created in June of this year. Regardless, it’s nice to see that the traditionally silent Valve has a new way to communicate.
