Halo racks up positive reviews and sales with PC launch

Late last night the first game from the Master Chief Collection (MCC)Halo: Reach – arrived on PC by way of Steam and the Windows Store and, as expected, it’s rather popular.

Looking at Steam for now as its numbers are more public, and Reach is currently sitting with a total of 1 387 reviews. These are classified under a “Mostly Positive” overall rating with 79 percent of those reviews being positive.

Despite all those positive reviews praising the gameplay that still stands up after originally being released in 2010, some negative reviews do point out technical and server issues that need fixing. There’s hope that these can be addressed with patches in short order, but it’s worth noting if you’re going to be playing this game with many others soon.

As for sales the MCC is the top selling overall game on Steam right now with Reach being second. The pair have been on that list at the top of near it for some time, so we expect for them to remain there going into the holidays. While we don’t have exact sales numbers we have to imagine that the developers behind this port are happy with their spot on top of the charts.

As a reminder Reach can be bought on its own for less money, or you can splurge on the MCC and have each new game added to your library as they become available going into 2020. The MCC is also available as part of Xbox Game Pass for PC, which is likely the cheapest option for most people.

As for the numbers of players there’s been a massive peak count of 161 024 in the less than 24 hours since Reach was released. To put that number into perspective: Destiny 2 sits just below Reach at 104 858, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beats out Reach at 598 239.

While that might be a slightly unfair comparison given the relative age of both Destiny 2 and Reach compared to Counter-Strike, and the fact that it’s currently hosting the big Operation Shattered Web event,  it’s still some impressive counts all around.

The MCC’s player count for the last 24 hours, as provided by SteamDB.
