If you’ve already finished Sword and Shield and have moved onto other things like competitive battling or shiny hunting, Pokémon has just announced a new way to stay in the Galar region.

Pokémon: Twilight Wings is a short animated series with just seven episodes that will come out in January of 2020.

This series is separate from the long running anime which, at least in Japan, has already moved into the Galar region along with new character Go (no relation to the Pokémon Go app).

“Over the span of seven episodes, Pokémon: Twilight Wings will show in detail the dreams of Galar’s residents, the realities they face, the challenges they must overcome, and the conflicts they must resolve. In addition to these new stories, fans can expect to see a variety of Pokémon originally discovered in the Galar region appearing throughout the capsule series,” reads the official announcement.

On top of a short number of episodes, each of those episodes themselves will be short at just five minutes a piece.

The animation will be provided by Studio Colorido which has produced Penguin Highway in 2018 and Typhoon Noruda in 2015 as its two most recent projects before Twilight Wings.

Unfortunately we don’t have a trailer to watch, with the only visual part of the show being released in the poster you can view below.

There’s also an official website for the show, but it contains little besides the poster, a logo for the series, and a list of staff names. The site is also entirely in Japanese.

Twilight Wings will air its first episode on 15th January 2020 on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. Barring any weird geo restrictions this should mean that most fans can watch it.

This isn’t the first time that a short series like this has been created and released on YouTube. Back in 2016 the 19 episode series Generations was released as a love letter to the franchise, complete with a slightly more mature tone and phenomenal animation. It can still be watched, in full and for free, on YouTube.
