Apple has announced the best performing apps and games in its App Store for a number of years now, but 2019 would be different when the company announced an event that would add a bit more pomp and circumstance to the proceedings.

Said event took place earlier this week, and now Apple has confirmed which are the winners of its Best Of for 2019.

Given how Apple has made a bigger push on the software side of things ever since Tim Cook took over as CEO, the move to make the Best Of prizegiving more of an event makes sense, especially as the firm aims to attract more creators and developers to its digital platform and marketplace.

As for which apps and games won, the complete list of winners and categories is as follows:

  • iPhone App of the Year: Spectre Camera from Lux Optics
  • iPad App of the Year: Flow by Moleskine from Moleskine
  • Mac App of the Year: Affinity Publisher from Serif Labs
  • Apple TV App of the Year: The Explorers from The Explorers Network
  • iPhone Game of the Year: Sky: Children of the Light from thatgamecompany
  • iPad Game of the Year: Hyper Light Drifter from Abylight S.L.
  • Mac Game of the Year: GRIS from Devolver/Nomada Studio
  • Apple TV Game of the Year: Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap from DotEmu
  • Apple Arcade Game of the Year: Sayonara Wild Hearts from Simogo

Along with the winners in each of the above categories, Apple also revealed the top free and paid apps/games on its various devices, listing 10 for each. These top performers are not all new, but are perhaps a more accurate reflection of the type of content that users of the App Store download.
