How to get your 2019 Matric exam results

The 2019 Matric exam results are expected to be revealed early next week, with Basic Education minister Angie Motshekga slated to deliver them on the evening of 7th January.

An estimated 700 000 candidates sat for the exams last year, with marking having ended in mid-December and now the scramble has begun to find out said results. Moshekga will deliver the key statistics of the 2019 exams live on SABC TV channels, as has been the case in previous years.

There are also a number of ways for learners to find out their individual 2019 Matric exam results, and we’ve listed all of the methods below to ensure you can receive them regardless of where you are in the country.

Online

Here there are a few different options.

The first is the Department of Basic Education’s website. The portal on the site will prompt public school students to enter their examination number, name, surname, ID number and home language.

In past years traffic on the site has proved an issue, so expect a slow response when trying to retrieve your results.

For private school students the IEB website is the online alternative, which too requires students to punch in their exam number and date of birth in order to login.

The other popular online option is News 24 which has a dedicated portal to retrieve 2019 Matric exam results.

You can also register an email address for your results to be sent to you, but we always advise checking on either the Basic Education or IEB sites to confirm results.

Phone (SMS)

If internet connectivity is an issue, there is also an SMS option available.

This service is run as a joint service from the SABC and Department of Basic Education, at a cost of R1 per SMS (free SMS bundles do not apply). You’ll also need to register for the service by SMSing your exam number to 35658.

The other telephonic option is calling the Department at 082 152, but much like visiting its website, there could be an issue with traffic.

Newspaper

Many of the country’s major newspapers will be publishing results on the morning of the 7th, but these are not detailed in terms of marks for specific subjects you wrote. Instead it simply indicates whether you passed or not.

Different symbols are used for the exams with a ‘B’ for Bachelor’s Pass and ‘D’ for Diploma and Higher Certificates.

High School

The last option is heading to your High School in order to find out results, with them usually being sent out two days after the official 2019 Matric exam results are revealed. You may also receive a document, but this is not your Matric Certificate, but simply a confirmation of the validity of the results.
