Neill Blomkamp’s Oats Studios to curate a short film collection

Oats Studios, the production house helmed by director Neill Blomkamp, is taking a new direction as it seeks to highlight short sci-fi made by other people.

As a quick recap Oats Studios has been uploading original short films of its own onto its YouTube channel since 2016. Since then the studio has been steadily creating free content supported by ads and the fact that the assets used in their videos can be purchased from Steam.

Last year the team drew a bigger audience when it partnered with EA to create a live action trailer for the game Anthem. This project, called Conviction, was generally well received even if the game itself was not.

Now in 2020 Oats Studios has moved onto doing something new, starting with another short film recently uploaded to their channel.

“MIGRANTS, a short film by Paul Chadeisson, is the first short film presented by Oats Studios in a new playlist that will become a curated collection of our favorite short films from our favorite artists,” reads the video description.

This can be watched in the embed below and, judging from that description, we should be seeing more work like this in the future.

We’re not sure what the end goal is for this playlist, if any, but we’ve love to see them all rolled into one and collated into a single anthology.

Until we know what happens next, we suggest subscribing to the channel so new videos arrive in your subscription feed.
