Cyberpunk 2077 launch delayed until 17th September

The new year means new games to get excited about, and one of this year’s biggest releases is Cyberpunk 2077. The CD Projekt Red developed title was originally slated for release on 16th April, but now the hotly-anticipated game‘s launch has been delayed by five months.

The developers took to Twitter to make the announcement confirming a new launch date of 17th September.

“Night City is massive — full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing, and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation, and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect,” the studio noted in its tweet.

As such it looks like Cyberpunk 2077 is a bigger beast than anticipated, and naturally given all the hype surrounding the game, making sure all the elements are as fine tuned as possible is a must.

This would not be the first time that CD Projekt Red has delayed the launch of a game, having done so The Witcher 3. The longer wait paid off though, as the game was and continues to be a resounding success.

Given how the developer is billing Cyberpunk 2077, we think waiting a few extra months is a small price to pay to ensure the gameplay, look and feel of the game are spot on. If you need further proof of good things come to those who wait, just look at Uncharted 3, which Naughty Dog delayed the launch of a few times too.

For now we must wait, but CD Projekt Red has stated that more updates will be provided closer to Cyberpunk’s new September release date.
