LEGO Partnering with Lamborghini as well as Fast & Furious

It’s a good day to be a LEGO-made car fan because we have announcements for not one but two new endeavours to come out of the toy giant.

The first is to do with Lamborghini. The famous Italian super car manufacturer has a long history of working with LEGO, starting in 2009 with a replica of the Gallardo.

This has continued into present day with the Urus ST-X and Huracán Super Trofeo EVO double pack set which came out in 2019.

Now in 2020 the pair are doing something different in the form of a Technic set. Technic is LEGO’s building system that revolves around gears and axles, and has been used to maker other super cards such as the Bugatti Chiron and Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The other sets mentioned about have been made with System, which is the more traditional interlocking bricks.

Unfortunately we don’t know much else about this new set aside from its scale (1:8) and a Summer 2020 release date. It will be available for purchase from official LEGO stores on 1st June, and a wider release will follow on 1st August.

Something of a teaser poster has been released:

The second car-related news to do with LEGO involves the Fast & Furious franchise.

Unlike Lamborghini the toy company has never worked with this licence before.

At the time of writing only one product has been announced in the form of a single Technic tie in for Fast & Furious 9. This set will release before the movie on 27th April 2020.

Unfortunately we don’t get any kind of teaser image to go off of, with the only remaining information being that the set will have an age rating of 10+.

The age rating, however, is rather telling. The very large Bugatti and Porsche sets mentioned above (3 599 and 2 704 pieces respectively) are rated for ages 16 and up. While age suggestions for toys isn’t much to go by, they are usually a good indicator of the size and price of LEGO sets.

Because of this we can assume that the set for Fast & Furious will be much smaller and intended for play. The Lamborghini one, on the other hand, will be more of a display item with many more pieces costing much more.
