Disney+ launching in Europe a week early, but no update on other regions

We have written about the early success of Disney+ in recent months, despite only being available in a limited number of countries at launch for a few months, the house of mouse appears to have a real winner on its hands.

It may be the reason why the company is planning to launch Disney+ in selected European countries a week ahead of schedule. Where it was originally supposed to launch in 31st March, the new date is set for 24th March.

The service is already up and running in the Netherlands, with the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland set to join them on the aforementioned date. This will then be followed by Belgium, Portugal, and some Nordic countries later in the year, but no precise window mentioned.

Depending on which European nation you reside in, the service will cost an estimated £5.99/€6.99 monthly, with the yearly option costing £59.99/€69.99. We have not bothered placing a rand exchange figure above for the simple that the streaming service has not been earmarked for South Africa just yet, or any other country in the MEA (Middle East and Africa) region for that matter.

While it has forced some (we’re not naming names) to go the less than legal route to watch exclusive originals like The Mandalorian, the lack of word from Disney+ on its local availability is a tad disappointing.

All we can say at this stage is that Disney+ has a market primed to sign up here in South Africa, especially when you consider the numerous Marvel-related projects that the company has cooking at the moment.

So the ball is in your court Mickey and co.
