Google I/O 2020 kicks off on 12th May

Google I/O has become a fixture on the technology calendar in recent years, and serves as the main event for all things Google software related. As such it will be the venue where Google will showcase its latest build of Android, as well as what it plans to do on the smart devices side of things, along with a few surprises every now and then.

For 2020 we now know when Google I/O is happening, with CEO Sundar Pichai taking to Twitter to confirm the announcement. To that end it’s happening from 12th to 14th May at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.

With dates now sured up, the next thing to consider is what Google plans to showcase for developers.

We’ll likely get an idea of what the firm is working on for the next iteration of Android (Android R?), as well as some new hardware, but what guise that it take remains to be seen. In past years we’ve seen standalone VR headsets, new Pixel phones and other smart devices.

If the image shared by Google is anything to go by, which also hurts our eyes to look at by the way, the firm may be focusing more on the software side of things. Either way Google I/O 2020 will set the tone for the company’s software agenda this year, as it has always done.
