With January already on its way out Steam has revealed what its users were buying in December of 2019.

To that end it has released a list of the top 20 games on the platform, released in December and measured by revenue generated in the first two weeks after launch.

On top of this the top five free games are also provided, but this is measured by total unique player count, also two weeks after launch.

Both of these lists are provided below but they are in alphabetical order. In the announcement Steam lists these by release date, but does not offer any kind of insight into which of the 20 generated the most revenue.

While big names like those included in the headline – Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Hades – are expected here, there were some surprises. The VR title BONEWORKS is good to see on the list, with its quality managing to keep it in contention with other titles, despite the fact that it requires expensive hardware.

Aside from that Steam has also pointed out the fact that the games on these lists came from a wide variety of countries with 13 being represented by their games here.

In terms of free titles there’s nothing in the provided list that we’re familiar with as so many of them come out every month. While not a top performer we do recommend the free title Circle of Sumo, which we hope to see in this roundup when the January stats are released.
