Samsung to hold first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2020 earlier than normal

Each year Samsung kicks off its Galaxy Unpacked events on Day Zero of Mobile World Congress, but 2020 is going to be different. Instead of holding the event towards the end of February, which has been the norm for some time now, the South Korean firm stated it would hold the first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2020 on 11th February in San Francisco.

As for the devices that will be on show, the latest iterations of Galaxy S series are expected, but looking at the video that accompanied the announcement below, it seems like we could be getting a new foldable device instead.

The square-ish form factors that appear behind the white background in the video resemble the same sort of folding design that Lenovo recently used for its new Motorola razr, which is also what the next iteration of Galaxy Fold is also rumoured to favour.

Whether other devices will be accompanying the latest Galaxy Fold remains to be seen, with it also a possibility that Samsung could be holding a standalone event just for this device.

It would also be the first time in quite a few years that Samsung has not revealed a smartphone at MWC, which has routinely been its go-to platform for unveilings at the beginning of the year.

With the firm needing to make a better impact with its second iteration of folding phone than the Galaxy Fold did, perhaps getting a jump on the competition is the best move.

There is a little under five weeks before the Galaxy Unpacked event gets underway, so there will likely be plenty more rumours and leaks to surface between now and then.
