Season 2 of The Mandalorian headed to Disney+ in October

Disney+ may be less than six months old, but the streaming service has proved wildly popular in its shirt existence.

In recent days the service has surpassed the 26 million subscriber mark despite being limited in terms of region availability, and much of its success is down to original content like The Mandalorian.

In late December last year the Star Wars spinoff series got greenlit for a second season, and now we have a scheduled release date for said season – October 2020.

The news was confirmed by Disney CEO Bob Iger during a quarterly earnings call for the company, as he noted the show’s success and the likelihood that Baby Yoda will feature heavily in the promotion of the second season before it lands on Disney+.

The CEO also said there is a chance that there could also be Madalorian spinoffs too, with the religion of the group of bounty hunters making for interesting viewing in our view. As such the Disney+ universe of Star Wars content is definitely set to grow.

No word on the production delays surrounding the Obi-Wan Kenobi series though starring Ewan McGregor, but things are still on track for the Rogue One series featuring the Cassian Andor character from the film.

There was unfortunately no indication during the earnings call about plans to further widen the availability of Disney+ to other parts of the world, and those in Africa and South Africa in particular.

Hopefully that changes by the time season two of The Madalorian is ready, as we also have other original Disney+ content to get excited about, including a lot of Marvel-focused shows.
