SONA 2020 livestream starts at 19:00 on YouTube

The annual State of the Nation Address (SONA) where President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the National Assembly, the National Council of Provinces and citizens takes place this evening in Cape Town.

“The address builds on the success of the recent free and fair 2019 General Elections, which served to renew and strengthen our democracy. He will also use the opportunity to chart the course for the implementation of the electoral mandate as reflected in the 2019–2024 Medium Term Strategic Framework,” reads a statement on the South African Government website.

The proceedings will be broadcast on television on DStv channel 408, SABC TV stations, and eNCA.

SABC radio stations will also be carrying the broadcast if you happen to be stuck in traffic when address begins at 19:00 this evening.

For those without a TV, SONA will also be livestreamed on YouTube.

While we know for certain that Parliament’s YouTube channel will carry the broadcast, the quality of the stream has been rather disappointing in the past.

As an alternative we recommend checking out the YouTube channels of eNCA as well as the SABC. We will update this story later this evening with each of the streams embedded at the bottom of this post.

We’ve included links to all of the aforementioned channels below.

While SONA 2020 is set to begin at 7PM, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said that it would disrupt Ramaphosa if Pravin Gordhan was not fired.

Whether the party will follow through with this remains to be seen but with the event just a few hours away we won’t have to wait long to find out.
