Buying Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One unlocks it for the Series X

When Cyberpunk 2077 launches on 17th September this year those who choose to buy the game on Xbox One will also be able to play it on the newer Xbox Series X when that console comes out near the end of the year.

This is part of a new system Microsoft is calling “Smart Delivery”, which we only just learned about a few hours ago when official specs about the Series X were made available. Smart Delivery can be seen as something of a cross buy situation where buying a game for one of Microsoft’s consoles allows you to play it on all of them.

When Smart Delivery was announced along with those specs it was stated that games from Xbox Game Studios would all support this feature, with the only actual title being named dropped in the form of Halo Infinity.

As Cyberpunk 2077 is a third party game, it seems that Smart Delivery is a system that can be enabled on a per game basis.

From a consumer point of view this is obviously fantastic news. Learning about this we can’t help but think back to Grand Theft Auto V, a game that came out late into the llife cycle of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 that many people then bought a second time when it launched on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If Smart Delivery stops situations like that happening in the future, then we’re all for it.

There’s also the rumour that Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch, but that has not been confirmed by CD Projekt or Microsoft at the time of writing.

While not related to consoles we’d be amiss not to mention another collaboration which is still going on at the time of writing. Nvidia created 200 special editions of the RTX 2080 Ti which are all themed after Cyberpunk 2077. These are unfortunately, not for sale, but 77 of them are being given away right now in various contests.
