Next month’s Huawei P series event expected to happen on 26th March

Yesterday saw Huawei Huawei debut a number of new devices which included the new foldable Mate Xs. The Chinese firm is not stopping there when it comes to new smartphones for 2020 though, as CEO Richard Yu ended his presentation yesterday by noting that the company will be debuting “the world’s most powerful 5G phone” in Paris next month.

While Yu did not offer up a name or indeed a date for said Paris event, it is widely believed that the device is part of the P series, and in particular the P40 and P40 Pro.

This would make sense as Huawei routinely hosts a separate event from Mobile World Congress, which was cancelled this year because of the coronavirus, to showcase its latest P series offerings for the new year.

As for next month’s event, no official invites with dates have been sent out to media just yet, but Android Central has it on good authority that the event will happen on 26th March.

This fits in with the firm’s usual modus operandi, but the reason why we have not heard about an official date could be down to the coronavirus epidemic, which may effect whether media would be invited to a central venue for the unveiling.

As it did yesterday, Huawei may choose to hold a virtual press conference for the new P series, inviting only a small handful of media and live streaming the proceedings to the rest of the globe to ensure the health and safety of all involved.

Along with waiting to hear about an event, the other big talking point for this new P series is the addition of Huawei Mobile Services as a replacement to Google Mobile Services. The Chinese firm has worked frenziedly over the past few months to get its app ecosystem up and running, and put together several workarounds for a solid mobile experience.

Whether consumers react positively to these remains to be seen, but Huawei finds itself at a crucial point in its mobile journey. To date its been able to whether the storm surrounding the United States, the entity list and not having access to Google services through the sales of older popular devices.

The P40 and P40 Pro, however, will be the company’s first venture into new territory. The P series’ success has also set up Huawei for strong sales in past years, placing even more pressure on next month’s event.

Either way 26th March will prove a pivotal day in Huawei’s future.
