No Time To Die but plenty to be delayed, 007 pushed to November

The latest movie in the Daniel Craig James Bond franchise, No Time To Die, has been delayed. The title was originally scheduled for release in April but has now been pushed back into November.

“MGM, Universal and Bond producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, announced today that after careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace, the release of NO TIME TO DIE will be postponed until November 2020,” an official announcement reads.

As for an exact date in November, the UK will get the movie on the 12th and the US on the 25th. The rest of the world will have their dates revealed closer to the time.

As for why this delay has occurred no official word has been provided at the time of writing outside of the quote provided above.

The easy scapegoat here is coronavirus (COVID-19) fears. While this shouldn’t affect the actual product of the movie (which has wrapped at this point) it may deter movie goers from leaving their homes and heading to the crowded spaces of the local movie theatre.

Had No Time To Die released as planned ticket sales may have suffered. If this rumour proves to be true we have to wonder if other movies will follow suit until COVID-19, or at least the worries around it, have abated.

With several other big movies coming out in the following months – Black Widow and Mulan come to mind – we have to wonder if they will similarly be delayed.

For smaller and indie movies we have to wonder if abandoning a theatrical run for streaming may be the better choice in the interim. We understand showing movies in theatres is a prerequisite for certain things such as awards, but it’s the safer way to show movies right until COVID-19 is properly contained.
