Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge gets a red band trailer

The always popular and always violent Mortal Kombat series is getting an animated movie in the form of Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge and we now have a taste of it in the form of a red band trailer.

For those of us outside of the US the “red band” refers to the high age rating shown before the trailer by the Motion Picture Association. These warnings are usually removed for international releases and replaced by local ratings boards (or left out entirely) but still have a aura of seriousness for whatever you’re about to see next.

If you guessed that this means the trailer will be filled to the brim with blood and gore, you’d be correct. Scorpion’s Revenge, as you may have derived from the name, uses the story of Scorpion’s rivalry with Sub-Zero as a framing device for the tournament.

“…an all-new, feature-length film produced by Warner Bros. Animation in coordination with NeatherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The film arrives from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Digital starting April 12, 2020,” the official description for the movie reads.

Those who prefer their media physical will be able to pick up a 4K Blu-ray / DVD combo pack come 28th April 2020. Suitably enough Johnny Cage makes a joke about exactly this.

As for what we see in this snippet of the film it looks like the standard Warner Bros. Animation fair which will be immediately familiar with anyone who has watched the slew of DC titles that the studio creates. It’s interesting to see the slight redesigns of the characters here and the use of x-rays which have been in a feature in many of the modern games.

This weekend was packed with Mortal Kombat content (kontent?) as the Final Kombat 2020 tournament took place. Those not interested in esports or the trailer for this new movie will be happy to see another trailer, this time for Spawn being made playable as DLC in
Mortal Kombat 11.
