Huawei issues warranty extension and support app for local customers during lockdown

Huawei is the latest firm to unpack plans to assist local customers during the impending national lockdown, with it announcing the addition of an extended warranty, as well as a Support App for the next three weeks.

This as the firm will be closing its physical retail presence, as outlined by the presidency earlier this week.

“The next three weeks will be a time of uncertainty for all South Africans, as we try to navigate a new reality of being indoors 24/7. Although Huawei stores will be closed during this period, as per the President’s directive, Huawei wants to take one worry off their customers’ minds with its new extended warranty, as well as its support app,” the company explained in a press release.

As for the specifics of what is being made available, Huawei has said that all of its products – smartphones, tablets, wearables, smart home devices – whose warranty expires between 24th March and 30th June 2020 (inclusive), will now have their warranty extended to 30th June 2020.

“This means Huawei customers don’t need to stress about their warranty expiring during lockdown,” the firm added.

Shifting to the Support App, the company has noted that it will still be prioritising customer service over the next few weeks, even though its stores will be closed during the lockdown.

To that end customers’ first port of call if they have a problem with their Huawei smartphone or tablet is the pre-installed Support App.

“The Support App has a variety of fast and practical functions such as smart diagnosis and inquiry of rights, enabling it to troubleshoot potential issues by providing Huawei fans with a scenario-based solution,” the firm points out.

With Huawei set to reveal its new P40 series of devices later today, it should be interesting to see how the firm copes with launching the smartphone lineup, as well as interacting with customers.

As such we hope the firm has the necessary measures in place during this challenging time, in what has already proved to be a taxing year.
