Evotel working with 20 ISPs to give locals faster internet during lockdown

Earlier this month Vumatel announced that it would be increasing line speeds for customers as they were pushed to work or study from home.

Now, open access network operator, Evotel has said it will be pursuing a similar effort during lockdown.

“We are going to be increasing all of our existing customers line speeds to the next package above theirs. For example if they are on a 50/50Mbps line we will increase it to the 100/100Mbps. We are launching this initiative in partnership with our amazing ISPs,” head of sales at Evotel, Bradley Bekker said in an email to Hypertext.

The network operator says it is working with all 20 internet service providers on its network and all of them have come on board.

While Evotel didn’t share an exact date as to when lines will be upgraded it did say it hopes that the increased speeds will be live from 1st April.

These line speed increases will be in effect until May 2020 and customers will not be charged for these increases. Should it be necessary, Evotel will extend this offer’s period of validity.

What’s more is that both new and existing customers will benefit from these line speed increases.

While every effort is being made to increase the line speeds for all packages and customers, Evotel has said that its 200Mbps line will not be increased as some ISPs do not offer a 1Gbps package.

For more information on these line speed increases customers can visit the Evotel website.
