Loadshedding increases to Stage 2 on Tuesday

True to its word, Eskom appears to be implementing loadshedding throughout the week.

On Monday Stage 1 loadshedding started at 09:00 and was meant to run until 23:00. However, on Monday evening Eskom said that Stage 1 loadshedding would have to continue through the night.

While loadshedding was ultimately suspended at 05:00 on Tuesday morning we now face a day of Stage 2 loadshedding.

“There have been delays in returning generation units that were expected to return to service yesterday,” Eskom said on Tuesday morning.

“They will now only return during the course of the week. This has put additional pressure on the system and necessitated a continuation of loadshedding. The team are hard at work returning the units to service,” the utility added.

As of 06:55 on Tuesday morning, unplanned outages and breakdown were at 11 386MW while planned maintenance outages mean 5 340MW is not available.

Eskom warns that the loadshedding stage could change at short notice should there be an unexpected change in system performance.

We recommend our readers check their schedules online or using the Eskom Se Push app as loadshedding is expected to be with us until at least Thursday.
