Mulan, New Mutants and Antlers suffer theatrical release delays due to COVID-19

Last week the producers of the latest James Bond film, No Time To Die, decided to delay the theatrical release of the film due to potential spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as a result of people heading to the cinemas.

Now a few more films have been added to the delayed roster, as Mulan, New Mutants and Antlers, have had their release dates pushed back, according to Variety.

All three properties technically fall under the Disney brand, with Mulan of course being the studio’s big live-action remake of 2020. New Mutants and Antlers are both under FOX, with the former having been in limbo for some time now.

It’s unclear when all three films will hit the cinemas, with no new date mentioned, as was the case with No Time To Die.

Hollywood Studios have been taking a cautious approach when it comes to COVID-19, with Paramount Pictures pushing back the release of A Quiet Place Part 2, and Universal doing the same for Fast 9.

A hotly anticipated upcoming Disney property is Black Widow (Marvel), which received its final trailer this week, is still slated for release on 24th April at the time of writing. Given the fate of other Disney projects, it would not surprise us if the Scarlett Johansson-led flick suffers a similar postponement.

Either way this latest development showcases just how many ways that the coronavirus outbreak has impacted the decision making of several industries.

As such we suspect more consumers will be turning to streaming services and online platforms to get their entertainment fixes in the coming months.
