Takealot will remain open during lockdown to sell essential goods

After about a day of waiting to find out if Takealot will indeed be operational during lockdown we have received word from the online retailer.

In an update on its Facebook page, Takealot has said that it will be open for business during the lockdown.

“As an essential service provider, takealot.com will remain open during lockdown to safely deliver essential goods as directed by the South African government,” said Takealot.

There is a bit of a catch to this though.

While Takealot is open for business it appears as if it will only be stocking essential items. In light of this, Takealot’s payment systems are currently down so as to disable payments and the ability to purchase non-essential items. Payments should return shortly.

“Customers will be notified directly about pending orders and returns in due course,” the firm added.

As for collections the wording of the statement leads us to believe that Takealot will only be delivering items to customers but we’re trying to get in touch with the brand to clarify this.

We will be sure to update this story as more information is released but for now, you’ll be able to order essential items from Takealot during the 21-day nationwide lockdown.
