Tinder sends users message about coronavirus

With the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic still ongoing, online dating seems to be the only safe way to do things right now. One of the biggest names in the field, Tinder, has sent its users a message about that.

“While we want you to stay connected, protecting yourself and staying safe is most important. We also want to make sure you have easy access to credible information about COVID-19 while you’re on Tinder,” a message on the app reads.

The message then includes a link to the World Health Organisation (WHO) which is the de facto for reliable information in these uncertain times.

The specific link Tinder provides can be found here, and is the WHO’s “advice for the public” page about COVID-19. If you haven’t already found your way to this page for advice and solid information, we suggest doing so now.

“Please come back regularly and check the link as information is updated. Remember: keeping yourself safe and healthy helps to keep everyone in our community safe and healthy, too,” The message from Tinder concludes.

While we do like any and all avenues of communication being used to alert people about the WHO’s advice, we do wish Tinder actually outright stated that human contact, with new Tinder matches or otherwise, should be kept to an absolute minimum.

While we understand that this whole issue is more nuanced than that, Tinder CEO Elie Seidman, shared a bit more about the the company’s stance on the situation.

In the Tinder newsroom post Seidman stressed that the app is a “a platform that is about connection” that still supplies valuable human contact, even if it isn’t in physical form. That’s a great sentiment and we really hope users take it to heart, especially in countries like ours where a governmental lockdown is looming in an effort to halt the spread of COVID-19.
