Which is the best class in Destiny 2? Next week’s Guardian Games will decide

Destiny 2 is currently experiencing something of a lull not unlike the one we saw during Joker’s Wild / Season of the Drifter in 2019.

Things are about to get slightly more interesting, however, with the introduction of the first ever Guardian Games.

For those who can’t watch the video above, the Guardian Games are Destiny 2’s version of the Olympics only instead of nations competing against one another, it will be the trio of classes in Destiny 2.

Each day bronze, silver and gold medals will be awarded to the relevant class. These medals will take the form of a character’s class item and will change dynamically according to which class won a specific day.

So how do you win?

Firstly players will need to head to the Tower on 21st April when the Guardian Games begin (the games begin at weekly reset which is at 7:00 CAT locally) and pick up a class item from our favourite immortal granny, Eva Levante.

Each day there will be bronze, silver and gold medals to earn in specific game modes. In order to earn these items you will need to equip your class item, defeat enemies and pick up the laurels they drop.

However, there is a rather important note to make here.

Anybody who has spent a bit of time in the Crucible will know that Hunters are the dominating force in Destiny 2. Bungie is well aware of this and as such medals will be weighted slightly different per class to maintain a level playing field.

“We aren’t fiddling with the numbers to force wins on alternate classes – Hunters could still take this entire thing if they put enough effort in,” wrote Bungie.

Exotic Competition

Players will be able to earn three Exotic ghost shells during the Guardian Games, one for each week of the competition. The ghost shells are themed to each class and we’re super keen on the Warlock Ghost – provided it has the Treasure Hunter and Guiding Light perks.

Much like 2019’s Revelry, there is also an Exotic weapon up for grabs.

The Heavy Machine Gun, Heir Apparent will become available. How exactly folks will earn this is unclear but given how easy it was to get last years Exotic Linear Fusion Rifle, The Arbalest, we don’t foresee this being a very involved quest.

One final note, players should expect an update ahead of the Guardian Games going live. The game will seemingly be taking offline on all platforms for roughly 15 minutes at which point a patch will need to be downloaded. You can read this week’s This Week At Bungie blog post for more information.

We’re a little bit excited for this event.

As we mentioned at the top of this story, things are a bit slow in Destiny 2 at the moment and having the three classes compete against each other for ultimate glory sounds like a fun time.

On a personal note, watch out Titans and Hunters, the Warlocks are coming and we’re going to look like majestic eagles while we beat you.
