Bethesda to give $1 million to coronavirus relief efforts

Bethesda is the latest big name in the games industry to make a dollar amount donation to organisations fighting the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The company has pledged a round million US dollars to the cause.

The money isn’t going to just one place, however, but will be instead split between a few causes.

Where the million will go has been outline by Bethesda below:

  • “$500,000 will be given to Direct Relief, a charity which is directly involved in COVID-19 relief efforts, including the critically important work of providing personal protective equipment to health care workers.
  • $250,000 will go to UNICEF, which partners with front-line responders around the world to keep children and their families safe and protected.
  • $250,000 will be donated to local COVID-19 relief efforts within the communities where we work and live. These recipients will be chosen by our individual studios and international offices. This way we can support worthy charities fighting COVID-19 in our local communities across the world.”

The last big gaming name to make a donation this size was Humble Bundle. Its “Humble Conquer COVID-19 Bundle” raised $6.5 million. Granted that money came from people buying the bundle and not the company itself, but it’s clear that important names in the gaming community are doing their bit to fight COVID-19.

Back to Besthesda, however, and the company is also leaning on its “Bethesda At Home” campaign. Right now this includes streams from employees who are now working from home and it seems to be intended to keep interactions with fans up while we’re all stuck at home.

The last game that Besthesda published is, of course, the indomitable Doom Eternal. We’ll have to wait and see if the pandemic affects the company’s output going into the future, especially around DLC for the latest Doom title.
