Apple re-issuing numerous iOS app updates, but reason why is unknown

Last week Apple and Google released APIs for the COVID-19 tracing tools that the two firms have been working on. For iOS users this meant an updated iOS 13.5, but since its rollout, there have been a few issues for the operating system.

The most recent being reported is the re-issuing of iOS app updates, some of which were already done earlier this month but, for an unknown reason, have been pushed to iPhone users once again.

This bug, which MacRumors is calling the “no longer shared with you” bug has meant users have had to go into the settings of their applications and reinstall in order to ensure that all the associated settings and data for the app are not lost.

The Verge is also reporting the same issue with some of its staff’s devices, with the number of unexpected iOs app updates ranging from 20 to 100, depending on the library of apps on the iPhone or how recently it has been updated.

Our own iOS device also appears to have run a number of updates today, when checking out our profile in the App Store application.

While Apple has neither acknowledged, nor commented on this mysterious update scenario, as of the time of writing, it looks like no functionality for applications has been lost as a result.

For now then, this re-issuing of iOS app updates is simply an oddity, and iPhone users should not be concerned as a result. Just make sure you only run updates while connected to WiFi, as it could become costly over mobile data.
