Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s first gameplay trailer is high on visuals, low on gameplay

Last week Ubisoft impressed us with a teaser and full reveal of its latest offering – Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. As the publisher has done in recent years, the reveal trailer looked gorgeous, which made the prospect of a closer look at the gameplay all the more exciting.

Well as fate would have it, a gameplay trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla landed online last night, but it is not what we’re hoping. This as the game, although serving up some intriguing visuals, did not offer up a single frame of actual gameplay.

It is therefore hard to categorise it as a gameplay trailer, and the community of Assassin’s Creed fans are equally divided on this latest piece of content. At the time of writing, the YouTube video has 20k likes and 16k dislikes, which is Call of Duty Infinite Warfare numbers.

We don’t think that players are already revolting against the game, it is simply a case of the gameplay trailer not delivering what was promised.

Hopefully Ubisoft can correct this with a proper gameplay trailer soon, along with a deep dive into the mechanics and story line of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

It is worthwhile talking about the visuals though, as the ones seen in the video pasted below come from the Xbox Series X console that Microsoft is launching at the end of the year.

It also appears as if Ubisoft and Microsoft are working closely together on Valhalla, with players being able to digitally purchase one version of the game, and play it on either the Xbox One or Xbox Series X.

There is no word on whether this feature is for UPlay only, or indeed if it will apply for the PS4 and PS5 later in the year.

Regardless it looks like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be one of the first must-play titles when those next-gen consoles see the light of day.
