Livestream for Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City preview pushed to 25th June

Yesterday we saw a number of companies come out in solidarity with protestors in the United States, and across the globe, as part of Blackout Tuesday. The game developer industry in particular was cognisant of the fact that drawing focus on its projects at this time was not the right tone, with the likes of Sony delaying its PS5 reveal.

Now CD Projekt RED is taking a similar stance with its Night City Wire preview of Cyberpunk 2077, which was was originally set to be live streamed this week, but has since been pushed back to 25th June.

The team behind the game confirmed as much in a tweet last night, while also acknowledging some of the important conversations that need to be happening right now, and noting its stance when it comes to racism.

While this is only a gesture, it is at least pleasing to see a developer behind one of 2020’s most hotly-anticipated games, be aware of what other issues are happening across the globe.

With EA Sports also choosing to postpone its reveal of Madden 21, we expect to see more developers, publishers and studios do the same this week.

Whether the necessary conversations occur and action can be taking regarding the reason behind the protests between now and 25th June, remains to be seen.

Regardless we are still excited to see how the creation of Night City has unfolded, and what players will be able to do in-game when Cyberpunk 2077 releases on 17th September.
