Document management is going digital fast and resellers must pivot

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage the world as thoughts have started to shift to what the world will look like on the other side of this historic time in humanity.

One thing that many appear to agree on is that physical distancing and reduced contact with other people is here to stay, at least for a while.

While handshaking and hugging may be easier to bid adieu to, there are some aspects of business which may fall away entirely as a result.

One of those aspects is passing paper around an office and document management as a whole.

While digitalisation has been a word uttered on the lips of many a conference speaker in the past few years, the time for lip service is up and the time for digitalisation is now.

This presents a bit of a challenge for resellers who had built a business around physical document management. For those resellers, scanning and document management solutions business unit manager at Tarsus Distribution, Kevin Reaper, says that it is time to pivot.

“Most businesses are facing a tsunami of paperwork today,” says Reaper.

“Capturing information physical and digital, storing documents and incorporating it into the workflow are headaches for companies of all sizes. Many businesses are asking how they can streamline document management to ensure compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI) and more recently how to get the workforce functioning remotely during Lockdown,” he adds.

So how can resellers pivot to addressing the needs for streamlined processes and digitalisation?

The manager at Tarsus says that businesses will need guidance and resellers can take up a consultative role to guide those businesses.

But Reaper acknowledges that consulting requires a collective approach and a reseller may not be able to go at it alone.

“In some cases, they’ll need to work with other specialists in areas such as information security or HR software to really add value. We’re seeing multiple solutions converge on the information management space, and small businesses are looking to the channel to help them manage the complexity,” says Reaper.

More than this however, the solutions that small businesses need may have shifted dramatically as the workforce began working from home.

Previously simple tasks such as billing will have become an entirely new beast that needs simple and cost effective alternatives that meet the needs of a company.

It’s important then to dive deep into a client’s processes to uncover how digital solutions can best meet their needs.

“Resellers that can deliver an integrated approach to document scanners, software and services will be positioned to thrive in this space,” concludes Reaper.
