Have your say in how Comic Con Africa 2020 will work online

Last week we got the unfortunate news that Comic Con Africa would not be happening as planned in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As with most events it is moving online, and now you can have your say in what that will look like.

This survey has just been shared by the official Comic Con Africa channels and aims to get community feedback about most aspects of hosting the event online.

You will need to put aside a fair few minutes to answer this as there are 21 questions to answer, and many of them have multiple parts and Likert scales to complete.

In exchange for your time in filling out the form, a prize is on offer. A 1/4 scale Elektra from the Marvel Premium Collectible Statue Series. Seeing as this is a very pricey collectable – we found one on sale locally for R13 500 – this is a rather nice incentive.

So what is actually in the survey? Aside from capturing your contact details there are many questions asking how and where you consume content online. We assume this is being asked so that whatever online format the convention takes, it lines up with how people already like to do things.

Judging by certain questions the organisers are being rather ambitious here, with talks of online workshops, celebrities, gaming, cosplay, panels and more all still taking place remotely. We suppose some of this will fall away depending on what the community response to those particular questions are.

Again, if you want to participate, you can do so here on SurveyMonkey.

Finally it’s worth mentioning one question asked here – “When do you think you will feel comfortable attending conventions and live events?”. The answer options here are, aside from “right now”, various times in 2021. As Comic Con Africa is still intending to run a conventional convention next year, this question looks to be some planning for that.
