The Fujifilm Instax mini 11 lands locally in mid-July

While Fujifilm’s mirrorless cameras have won us over in recent years, it is the company’s instant camera range that has proved one of its most popular product lineups in South Africa. As such, fans of the nostalgic medium will be interested to hear that the Instax mini 11, the latest iteration in the range, will be landing locally next month.

There is no precise date from Fujifilm South Africa just yet, but the company has confirmed a mid-July release with a recommended price tag of R1 199.

So what’s changed on the Instax mini 11 compared to 2017’s mini 9 model? Well the big change is a dedicated selfie mode, which is facilitated by pulling out the edge of the camera lens once the mini 11 is powered on. On the older model, a special lens adapter was required, but that is no longer the case here.

The same selfie mode can also be used for close-up photography, according to Fujifilm, with the focus distance ranging from 30 to 50 centimetres.

Other improvements on the Instax mini 11 include a slightly lighter design, with it weighing 293g (excluding batteries and film).

The Japanese camera maker has also changed up the material used for the lens portion of the device too. There’s also the novel addition of a glow in the dark and jewel accessory that can be placed on the shutter button, if that’s your thing.

On the power side of things, that’s taking care of with two AA batteries, which should yield up to 100 prints, and speaking of which, Fujifilm says the Insatx mini 11 can produce prints in 90 seconds once the shutter button is pressed.

It remains to be seen if those with a mini 9 will want to upgrade to the latest model, but Fujifilm has added a few new pastel colour options to the range (in the header image) to entice consumers.

Along with being able to purchase the mini 11 standalone for R1 199, there is also a bundled version with one pack of Instax film for R1 349 (RRP).
