Raids, Titles and weapon quests to do in Destiny 2 before September

Last week we learned that the future of Destiny would bring us new locations, old locations and some locations being retired to the Destiny Content Vault.

The DCV, as it’s known, will be used to temporarily remove some content from Destiny 2 as the game grows bigger with each new expansion.

The first time this will happen is September of this year when Beyond Light launches. When that expansion drops, Mars, Mercury, Io and Titan will no longer be accessible from the Destiny 2 director. The Leviathan and its associated activities will also disappear.

In addition to the patrol spaces, activities from those locations will also no longer be accessible and if you’re a casual player such as myself that means a boatload of activities you’ve been putting off for years may finally be inaccessible.

Now, while Bungie has said that it will consider bringing these destinations back in the future, we aren’t really keen on having to wait to pick up a few items we’ve had our eye on for a while.

So without further ado here is a list of things you should do before they are gone for the foreseeable future.

Finish the campaigns or do them again

The Red War wasn’t the best jumping off point for Destiny veterans but as a new player it was incredible. Having replayed the campaign numerous times I quite enjoy the story although the pacing can feel a bit off at times.

With the introduction of New Light the campaigns lost a bit of their sheen given the disconnect between starting the game in the Cosmodrome rather than in a Tower under attack by the Cabal like one did before 2019.

All of this having been said I urge you to finish off the campaigns for Red War, Curse of Osiris and Warmind. All in all it should take you a weekend a piece if you go at a casual pace.

While it’s not a weapon, the catalyst for Telesto requires completing all of the Forge weapon quests from Brother Vance on Mercury (not Ada-1’s Black Armoury forges) and we recommend getting started on those as soon as possible.

The previous campaigns are all available at Amanda Holliday near Saint-14 in the Tower.

Secret missions – Rat King, Sleeper Simulant, Polaris Lance, Whisper of the Worm, Outbreak Perfected

Titan is a location that we feel was wasted in Destiny 2. The Arcology, the massive Leviathan hiding beneath the Moon’s methane oceans, the great wave that came close to destroying Titan, it’s such a deep and engaging location from a lore perspective.

It also happens to be the place that you start two Exotic quests.

The first is the quest for the Rat King. While you can do most of the quest steps off-planet, you will need to do the Enemy of my Enemy mission on Titan.

Once you have completed the mission and chosen who lives or dies you will get an Exotic quest with a few riddles. The solutions to the riddles can be found here.

The second quest we urge you to do is the one for Outbreak Perfected. Like Rat King, this quest can be done mostly off planet but you will need to visit Lost Sectors on Titan and Io so do this one sooner rather than later.

Over on Mars you will find quests for both Sleeper Simulant and Polaris Lance. Both of the quests for these weapons are obtained following the completion of the Legacy Code quest. Both quests require completions of activities on Mars.

Finally, over on Io is perhaps the best mission ever made in Destiny 2 – The Whisper. We urge you to finish the Warmind campaign before diving into this mission as the lore is fascinating and shows off how Bungie does nothing on accident.

The Whisper is a test of jumping, combat and speed. It’s one of our favourite missions and the Exotic you get from it – Whisper of the Worm – is still one of the strongest weapons in the game.

As an aside, if you have yet to finish Forsaken and earn the Ace of Spades Hand Cannon, you best finish that up as well as you need to visit Io and Titan to complete the quest for the late Cayde-6’s Hand Cannon.

Raid Night

This piece of advice should be taken seriously as of time of writing especially if you have the Season of Arrivals Exotic, Witherhoard AKA Blighting Lion.

At present there is a glitch whereby Witherhoard melts raid bosses. This will surely be patched quickly but for now it’s time to do some raids.

Come September, Leviathan, Eater of Worlds, Spire of Stars and Crown of Sorrow will no longer be available.

Why is this a problem? Well because there are some items you may want from those raids.

For one the Legend of Acrius is attained and upgraded via multiple completions of the Leviathan and Leviathan Prestige raid.

There are also two Exotic catalysts aboard the Leviathan. The catalyst for Telesto can be acquired through the Prestige version of the Eater of Worlds raid.

The harder catalyst is the one for Sleeper Simulant. For this catalyst to drop you have to complete the Spire of Stars Prestige raid and the catalyst has a random chance to drop.

Once you have that catalyst you will need to get 1 000 kills with the IKELOS_SG_v1.0.1, 1 000 kills with the IKELOS_SR_v1.0.1 and 2 000 kills with the IKELOS_SMG_v1.0.1. If you don’t have those weapons yet you’ll need to Escalation Protocol bosses to have a chance at one dropping.

You will then need to head into The Whisper and open the Oracle chest before killing 500 enemies with Sleeper Simulant to complete the catalyst.

Finally, while Crown of Sorrow is a newer raid, because it takes place aboard the Leviathan it is gone in September.

The raid armour and weapons from this raid are rather cool but it’s the Exotic that you’ll want.

Tarrabah is the Exotic that can drop from Crown of Sorrow and there is now bad-luck protection for this Exotic. As of 9th June One Thousand Voices, Anarchy and – even though it wasn’t listed – Tarrabah have a 10 percent chance of dropping but this increases up to a max of 50 percent over 20 clears.

This bad-luck protection is only in effect as of 9th June so even if you’ve cleared Last Wish 100 times you will only have a 10 percent chance of One Thousand Voices dropping.

While it wasn’t discussed explicitly, the fact that gear from Scourge of the Past isn’t being brought up to a higher power level from September has the community wondering if that raid’s gear will also be sunset.

Become Wayfarer and Chronicler

Back in Forsaken Bungie introduced Titles. These are earned through a long grind and perhaps two of the grindiest (most grindy?) Titles are those of Wayfarer and Chronicler.

Neither are difficult but they require you complete a bucket of activities and rely on RNG far too often.

While Chronicler has a focus on the Tangled Shore and the Dreaming City, it does also require you find Ghost Stories.

There are 23 dead Ghosts scattered throughout the system and in order to complete the Title you will need to scan all 23. In order to do that you will need to visit destinations that won’t be with us come September.

Wayfarer requires completing almost every activity on every destination.

This includes running lost sectors, hunting Wanted enemies and acquiring weapons and armour from Mars among other destinations.

Simply put, each of these Titles requires a fair amount of time investment so if you want them before they become impossible to earn.

Finish off Ritual and Pinnacle quests

Yes, we know that many if not all of the Ritual and Pinnacle weapons introduced in Destiny 2 are being sunset but that doesn’t mean you can’t use the weapons.

In most activities you will still be able to make use of the Mountaintop and Recluse combo but you might find they aren’t as effective as newer weapons.

However, if you want to tick the box that you acquired these weapons now is the time.

Given that Bungie hasn’t introduced a new Pinnacle or Ritual weapon for two season in a row we highly recommend earning past weapons where possible.

These include:

  • Luna’s Howl (Crucible)
  • Not Forgotten (Crucible)
  • Redrix’s Broadsword (Crucible)
  • Revoker (Crucible)
  • The Mountaintop (Crucible)
  • Randy’s Throwing Knife (Crucible)
  • Komodo (Crucible)
  • The Recluse (Crucible)
  • Breakneck (Gambit)
  • Exit Strategy (Gambit)
  • Python (Gambit)
  • 21% Delirium (Gambit)
  • Hush (Gambit)
  • Oxygen SR3 (Strikes)
  • Edgewise (Strikes)
  • Wendigo (Strikes)
  • Loaded Question (Strikes)
  • Buzzard (Strikes)

Depending on when you play and how often you play you may only have some of these quests or none. Our advice is to do them sooner rather than later.

Finally, our last piece of advice is to explore the destinations that will be vaulted. Bungie has poured years into Destiny 2 and it’s easy to forget to look around and drink in the worlds the developer created.

Spend some time on Titan watching Saturn and the Dreadnaught, stare at the Pyramid ship on Io’s horizon and ummm, do a lap of Mercury if you really must.
